Morphometric-hydro Characterization of the Coastal Line between El-Qussier and Marsa-Alam, Egypt: Preliminary Flood Risk Signatures

Abstract: Egypt is highly exposed to flash flood hazards, particularly in Sinai Peninsula and along the Red Sea coast, causing sudden and huge damages to constructions and huge losses in human lives during a very short time. This paper investigates the dominant characterization of morphometrical features and their relationships with the hydrological behaviors along an important strip of the western Red Sea coast. The study focuses on analyzing the October 2009 and 2019 storm events along the coastal area between EL-Quss… Show more

“…The smooth rock was perfect for such work. This prehistoric art includes depictions of hunting scenes showing numerous animals including giraffes, ostriches, and hunting dogs, (Khalifa et al,2022). Graffiti from a later period can also be found in the towering smooth walls of Wadi Hammamat (Valley of Baths) which is closer to El Quseir, but still a not-too-distant excursion from Marsa Alam.…”

“…It occurs as a result of heavy rain on sloping and weak surfaces because it is rocky. The strength of the torrent varies based on several factors, the most important of which is the suitability of the surface, the amount of rain and the intensity of rain, which is the relationship between the amount of torrential flow and the area of the basins is calculated The strength of the torrent through the following equation * (Khalifa et al, 2022).…”

“…The availability of remotely sensed data enhances adaptability to data scarcity conditions, which can also support the creation of hydrological models in a GIS environment with ease (Wang and Xie 2018 ). Flood risk mapping in GIS is often performed on a basin scale (Hasanuzzaman et al 2023 ), particularly in morphometric risk studies (Khalifa et al 2022 ), which use various stream and basin factors to provide a comparative flood risk map among basins, and on a grid scale, where a risk score is calculated for each grid in the area of interest (Lyu and Yin 2023 ).…”
