Molecular Regulation and Rejuvenation of Muscle Stem (Satellite) Cell Aging

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Age-related muscle loss leads to lack of muscle strength, resulting in reduced posture and mobility and an increased risk of falls, all of which contribute to a decrease in quality of life. Skeletal muscle regeneration is a complex process, which is not yet completely understood.CONTENT: Skeletal muscle undergoes a progressive agerelated loss in mass and function. Preservation of muscle mass depends in part on satellite cells, the resident stem cells of skeletal muscle. Reduced satellite cell funct… Show more

“…Pharmacometabolomics and its union with pharmacogenomics provide new insight to discover new biomarkers in clinical pharmacology. (8,175) Recent medical treatment refers to "average patients" based on one-size-fits-all approached therapy, which could be successful for some patients and not for others. On January 2015 "President Obama's Precision Medicine Initiative" released by the White House defines precision medicine as, "a new model of patient-powered research that promises to accelerate biomedical discoveries and provide clinicians with new tools, knowledge, and therapies to select which treatments will work best for which patients."…”
