“…Mumps outbreaks, even among vaccinated populations, have recently been reported worldwide, including in the UK, the US, the Netherlands, and Canada (10)(11)(12)(13)(14). In the present outbreak, we detected MuV genotype G, which has been the predominant genotype commonly detected in recent outbreaks.…”

“…Since 1970s the mumps has been controlled and prevented by vaccination with attenuated mumps vaccines, that resulted in significant reduction to nearly elimination of the disease from countries with high coverage rates of a 2-dose regimen. 10 However, resurgent mumps outbreaks among highly vaccinated population in recent years [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] in addition to relatively high rate of transient but unwanted neurological side effects by several vaccine strains 19 have raised many questions regarding the pathogenesis of MuV and vaccine efficacy, including considerations on the need to develop novel mumps vaccine candidates.…”

“…Although mumps is preventable by vaccination, mumps outbreaks within highly vaccinated populations have recently been reported worldwide (11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16). In the present study, the percentages of vaccinated patients with G1, G2, and H, which are the major genotypes detected since 2000, were 10z, 15z, and 25z, respectively.…”
