Modular Isolation Units for Patients with Mild-to-Moderate Conditions in Response to Hospital Surges Resulting from the COVID-19 Pandemic

This paper addresses the issue of wayfinding and human movement in a complex building. It focuses on the operations people perform to enable themselves to move from one place to another during the process of searching for a destination in a building. The wayfinding operations build upon the concept of tours and maps proposed by de Certeau (1984). This paper analyses how the tours and the maps operations were employed and distributed in a wayfinding journey within a building, with these operations enabling visitors to reach a certain destination in the building. The tours and maps operations were revealed by looking into the wayfinding narrative based on observations of participants executing wayfinding tasks. The results of the study indicate that the length of a wayfinding journey conforms to the number of operations performed. Both tours and maps operations had the same role in regulating the movements in the wayfinding journeys. While the tours operations regulated how people moved from place to place, the maps operations supported their movements by giving information from the surrounding environment. Understanding movement mechanisms by exploring operations in a wayfinding journey could contribute to the development of digital navigation systems for indoor wayfinding.

This paper explores the strategies and spatiality of neighborhood food coproduction during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The COVID-19 pandemic has created global food instability, requiring collective strategies to source and transform food for people in need. This paper is particularly interested in the neighborhood-driven coproduction of food for the rising rate of home-isolated COVID-19 patients, which generates new spatial programming and interconnections between dwellings, the neighborhood, and the city. This paper examines these issues using Twitter data, harnessing 141,208 tweets related to COVID-19 and neighborhoods in Indonesia. These tweets are then further filtered to provide 128 food-related tweets, which are then analyzed using categorical and networked revelation analysis. The analysis demonstrates strategies of food coproduction, including sourcing food ingredients, managing daily food transformation, and creating centralized structures. The spatiality of food coproduction highlights neighborhood accessibility, food placement structures, and dwelling configurations. The food coproduction strategies exist as a dynamic and responsive approach toward the fluctuating conditions of neighborhood dwellers, shaping the spatiality of the neighborhood and heightening the residents' resilience.

IoT-Based Indoor and Outdoor Self-Quarantine System for COVID-19 Patients

Even after two years since the declaration of the new virus Coronavirus Disease 19 , the reported cases are still considerably high in many countries, including Malaysia. The health authorities cannot monitor the health condition and track the location of every homemonitored patient at once due to many confirmed cases in a day. In order to overcome the shortage of manpower, an Internet of Things (IoT)-based self-quarantine system with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking is proposed in this paper to monitor the health conditions of the Covid-19 patients and track their real-time location via mobile application. Biomedical sensors are used to measure health conditions such as temperature, pulse oximetry, and heart-rate monitor. In addition, the RFID readers are used to detect patients that intend to leave the quarantine area, and the GPS modules are used to track their actual geometrical location so that the authorities can take further action. The real-time data is automatically pushed to the cloud server for the authorities to remotely view the patient's health condition and location on the Google map using smart devices. Finally, a hardware prototype and a mobile application have been successfully developed in this project. The system is able to display the temperature, heartbeats, and blood oxygen saturation properly on a liquid crystal display (LCD) screen. All these measured values, together with the information from RFID detection and GPS location tracking, can be viewed on a smartphone.
