Modified Rotor Flux Estimators for Stator-Fault-Tolerant Vector Controlled Induction Motor Drives

Abstract: This paper deals with fault-tolerant control (FTC) of an induction motor (IM) drive. An inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) of the stator windings was taken into consideration, which is one of the most common internal faults of induction machines. The sensitivity of the classic, well-known voltage and current models to the stator winding faults was analyzed. It has been shown that these classical state variable estimators are sensitive to induction motor parameter changes during stator winding failure, which resul… Show more

“…Theoretical values of I start . and T start are derived by using (11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16) with s = 1 and are then contrasted with the results of the simulation; the comparison is presented in Table 8.…”

“…The control of a number of variables, including current, torque, and speed, is crucial for ensuring its best performance and integrity [11][12][13]. Direct field-oriented control (DFOC) [14], H-infinity method [11], sliding mode control [15], non-vector control [16], resonant control [17], fieldoriented control(FOC) [13], and model predictive control (MPC) [18] are just a few of the control methods that have been used to regulate a number of IM parameters. The study on adaptive fuzzy based model predictive torque control for IM ripple attenuation [19], for example, demonstrates how well accepted MPC are.…”

“…Among these types of failures, stator failure can lead to critical failures, which are the focus of diagnosis [3]. In particular, quick detection of inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) is the main research objective [4][5][6][7].…”

“…Therefore, early diagnosis is urgently needed because the detection of inter-turn short circuits (ITSCs) can prevent sequential damage of the motor, minimize motor stop time, and the need for additional manpower and repair cost, thus avoiding considerable economic loss [8][9][10]. In the past, detection methods using vibration and noise sensors were applied, but the sensors are expensive and additional circuits need to be designed and attached to the equipment.…”
