Models of rock pressure phenomena

Abstract: The use of models made of equivalent materials is a universally acknowledged method of investigation. Proposed and developed at VNIMI (All-Union Scientific-Research Mine Surveying Institute), it is being used ha scientific institutes doing research on rock mechanics and rock pressure phenomena in varied mining-geological conditions and on a wide range of technical mining problems. The method has recently been increasingly recognized abroad. This book deals with the latest progress in development of this method.… Show more

“…Such systems are used in our underground mines in conditions of insufficient hardness and stability of both ore and country rocks. Iron ore deposits are mined mainly within the depths of 1200-1400 m with further deepening to 1800-2000 Submission date: 24-01-2023 | Review date: 19-03-2023 m. Considering the above facts as well as negative effects of rock pressure at deep levels, the problem arises of choosing the most rational shape of compensation rooms [5][6][7][8]16].…”

“…Using models made of equivalent materials [6] we have studied the caving of steep slopes when ejection-blasted at the base. The slope caves under gravity after formation of the ejection crater and propagation of compression and tension waves through the bank, i.e., the caving process is the final stage in the motion of the ground during the blasting of a steep slope.…”
