Model-Based Spatial Harmonics Vector Compensation Method for Three-Phase Mutually Coupled Switched Reluctance Machine With Sinusoidal Current Excitation

Abstract: This paper presents a spatial harmonics compensation method for mutually coupled switched reluctance machines (MCSRMs) with sinusoidal current excitation. The regulation by linear controllers to achieve sinusoidal currents in MCSRMs is challenging due to the substantial presence of spatial harmonics. The standard vector control with using Proportional-Integral controllers cannot effectively suppress the spatial harmonics of the current waveform due to the bandwidth limitations. In the proposed method, the esse… Show more

“…In [29], the total number of the FEA steps is similar to the method in [27]. However, the current is modeled by a single 3D LUT dependent on the rotor position (7). The size of this LUT is 20x10x90=18000 for a 10x10 i dq grid per quadrant and 90 steps per electrical cycle.…”

“…MCSRMs with sinusoidal current excitation have the advantage of using the standard voltage source inverter (VSI), rather than the asymmetric half-bridge converter used in CSRMs [5], [6]. Additionally, the standard vector control with the regular modulation techniques such as sinusoidal pulse width modulation and space vector modulation can be used instead of the hysteresis current controllers [7], which contributes to the acoustic noise due to the variable switching frequency.…”

“…A three-phase mutually coupled SRM is proposed in refs. [9][10][11], the idea is based on multiphase excitation, the mutual coupling is added between phases, and then an SVPWM method is able to be applied.…”

“…The second LUT describes the non-linear relationship between the phase current, the phase torque (T e ), and rotor position as T e = f (i ph , θ). Both LUTs are obtained by experiments or from finite element model using single-phase excitation and mutual coupling between phases is not considered [25], [26].…”
