Preschool children do not yet have independence in maintaining oral hygiene, especially brushing teeth. Bad oral hygiene causes plaque accumulation, where brushing teeth is a simple act of removing plaque and food debris with a toothbrush and toothpaste, because plaque and food debris are the main causes of dental caries. Purpose: This study was to determine the relationship between independence of brushing teeth to free plaque score in preschool children. Method: This type of analytic observational study with cross sectional design. The research was conducted on the students of Bintang Kindergarten in Pondok Labu Village, Cilandak District, South Jakarta. Data collection using the observation sheet brushing teeth and index free plaqu score. Data analysis using Chi-Square. Result: Less of independence in brushing teeth as many as 28 respondents (87.5%) and as many as 4 respondents (12.5%) independently brushed their teeth while the free plaque score with good criteria was 3 respondents (9.4%) and 29 respondents (90.6%) with bad criteria. Independence of brushing teeth on the free plaque score showed that the p-value was 0.001 (p <0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between independence of brushing teeth on free plaque score in preschool children.

Kesehatan gigi dan mulut adalah salah satu bagian fundamental dari kesehatan manusia secara menyeluruh. Karies gigi adalah masalah kesehatan gigi yang paling sering terjadi pada remaja usia sekolah akibat rendahnya tingkat pengetahuan. Karies gigi adalah penyakit infeksi dengan proses demineralisasi yang progresif pada jaringan keras permukaan mahkota dan akar gigi. Karies bersifat kronis sehingga sebagian besar penderita berpotensi mengalami gangguan seumur hidup. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan tingkat pengetahuan dengan status kesehatan gigi pada siswi MTs Muhammadiyah Penyasawan Kecamatan Kampar Kabupaten Kampar. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswi MTs Muhammadiyah Penyasawan dengan sampel sebanyak 30 siswi kelas VIII rentang usia 12-16 tahun yang diperoleh berdasarkan persamaan Makuch dan Rescke (2011). Metode penelitian menggunakan metode survey berdasarkan Cross sectional dengan pendekatan analisis regresi linier sederhana, dimana tingkat pengetahuan sebagai variabel bebas (X) dan status kesehatan gigi sebagai variabel terikat (Y). Penilaian tingkat pengetahuan dilakukan dengan scoring jawaban kuisioner, sedangkan penilaian status kesehatan gigi dilakukan observasi dengan indeks DMF-T. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang signifikan (p=0,000) dari tingkat pengetahuan terhadap status kesehatan gigi dengan tingkat keeratan hubungan R2 = 0,542. Hal ini berarti bahwa 54,2% tingkat pengetahuan memiliki hubungan positif yang linier dengan status kesehatan gigi siswi.

Background: Brushing teeth to maintain dental and oral health can be done by various methods. The proper brushing method is very important in achieving dental and oral hygiene. One of them is brushing teeth with the bass method. The bass method is one of the recommended brushing methods in dentistry. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of dental health education using video media on how to brush teeth with the Bass technique on the knowledge of brushing teeth in school children. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample in this study was taken by purposive sampling as many as 54 children aged 9-12 years. The research was conducted at the Al Istiqomah Mosque TPA, Sumberagung Village, Moyudan District, Sleman Regency. The research instrument used a questionnaire about brushing teeth. Dental health education in the intervention group used video media brushing teeth with bass technique, while in the control group used images media. Data analysis used descriptive analysis and independent t-test to compare the difference in knowledge scores of the treatment group and the control group. Results: the mean value of knowledge in the intervention group before was 11.19+1.54 and after was 12.11+1.33. The mean value of knowledge before in the control group was 11.24 +1.58 and after 11.44+1.22. The results of the knowledge dependent t-test in the intervention group were p=0.040 and in the control group were p=0.326. The results of the independent t-test were obtained p = 0.038. Conclusion: Video media is more effective in increasing tooth brushing knowledge than image media for school-age children Keywords: Video media, image media, tooth brushing knowledge, bass technique, school age children
