New heteronuclear complexes containing oxorhenium(V), Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III), UO 2 (VI) and Th(IV) ions were prepared by the reaction of the complex ligand, [ReO(H 4 L)Cl]Cl 2 , where H 4 L ¼ 8, 17-dimethyl-6,15-dioxo-5,7,14,16-tetrahydrodibenzo[a,h][14]annulene-2,11-dicarboxylic acid, with the previous transition and actinide salts. Three heteronuclear Cu(II) complexes were isolated depending on the ratio of [ReO(H 4 L)Cl]Cl 2 : Cu(II) ion. When the ratios were 1 : 0.5, 1 : 1 and 1 : 2, the heteronuclear complexes {[ReO(H 3 L)Cl] 2 CuCl 2 (OH 2 ) 2 }SO 4 Á H 2 O (I), [ReO(H 3 L)Cl 2 Cu(OH 2 ) 2 (SO 4 )] (II) and {ReO(H 2 L)Cl[Cu(OH 2 ) 3 SO 4 ] 2 } (III) were obtained, respectively. Heteronuclear complexes of the other metal cations were obtained by mixing [ReO(H 4 L)Cl]Cl 2 with the metal salt in the ratio 1 : 1 to obtain the heteronuclear complexes [ReO(H 3 L)Cl 2 Ni(OH 2 ) 2 ](NO 3 ) 2 (IV), [ReO(H 3 L)Cl 3 Fe(OH 2 ) 3 ](NO 3 ) 2 (V), [ReO(H 3 L)ClUO 2 (NO 3 ) 2 (OH 2 )]Cl (VI) and [ReO(H 3 L)Cl 3 Th(NO 3 ) 2 (OH 2 )]NO 3 Á 2H 2 O (VII).The complex ligand coordinates with the heterometal ion via the carboxylate group, and the infrared bands as COO and s COO indicate that the carboxylate acts as a unidentate ligand to the heterometal cations. Cu(II) and Fe(III) cations in the heteronuclear complexes have octahedral geometry, while Ni(II) is square planar. Thermal studies explored the possibility of obtaining new heteronuclear complexes pyrolytically in the solid state from the corresponding mother complexes. The structures of the complexes were elucidated by conductance, IR and electronic spectra, magnetic moments, 1 H NMR and TG-DSC measurements as well as by mass spectroscopy.

The reactions of azo ligand, 2-[2 0 -carboxyphenylazo]-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexane-dione, (H 2 L), with the metal ion Cd(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Th(IV), or UO 2 (VI) in the presence of LiOH as a deprotonating agent, yielded binary mononuclear complexes. The binary Cu(II) complex reacts with the ligands 1,10-phenanthroline or 2-aminopyridine to form mixed-ligand complexes. All the binary complexes of Cd(II), Cu(II), and Ni(II) have octahedral configurations, while the Co(II) complex is square-planar. The binary complexes of Th(IV) and UO 2 (VI) have distorted dodecahedral geometries. The mixed-ligand complexes have octahedral configurations. Thermal studies on these complexes showed the possibility of obtaining new complexes pyrolytically, where the complexes decompose through several isolable as well as nonisolable intermediates during heating. The structures of all complexes and the corresponding thermal products were elucidated by elemental analyses, conductance, IR and electronic absorption spectra, magnetic moments, 1 H NMR and TG -DSC measurements as well as by mass spectroscopy. The ligand and some of the complexes were found to activate the enzyme pectinlyase.

New carboxylate complexes of the tetraazamacrocyclic ligand N,N',N'',N'''-tetrakis(2-pyridilmethyl)-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (tpmc) with Ni(II) and Zn(II) as central ions were prepared. In mixed-ligand complexes (endo,endo)-bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2,3-dicarboxylate dianion (C 9 H 8 O 4 2-) is also coordinated to metal ions. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N), FTIR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, molar conductivity determination and magnetic susceptibility measurement at room temperature. The analytical data of the complexes show the formation of binuclear [Ni 2 (C 9 H 8 O 4)tpmc](ClO 4) 2 •4H 2 O and tetranuclear [Zn 4 (C 9 H 8 O 4)(tpmc) 2 ](ClO 4) 6 • •CH 3 CN•KClO 4 •4H 2 O complexes. In tetranuclear Zn(II) complex bicyclic dicarboxylate ligand is most likely to be bridge coordinated, and in binuclear Ni(II) complex it is coordinated in a combined bridged manner with chelate rings formation. In both complexes macrocyclic ligand was exo coordinated, out of cyclam ring and adopts a boat conformation. The Zn(II) complex is one of the rare tetranuclear Zn(II)-tpmc complexes with carboxylate ion bridging two Zn 2 tpmc units. The complexes were tested for antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) and Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633), Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), and yeast Candida albicans (ATCC 10231), and were screened for antiproliferative activity against human cervix adenocarcinoma (HeLa) and human myelogenous leukemia (K562) cell lines.
