“…Now it is generally accepted that the immunofluorescent techniques are decisive in differentiating pemphigus and dermatitis herpetiformis. Thus, the lack of the junctional deposits of IgA, so characteristic of dermatitis herpetiformis [10], and the presence of both circulating and in vivo bound intercellular antibodies in the present case as well as the cases reported recently [2,7,9] indicate that these cases belong to a variety of pemphigus. Clinically and histologically, most of such cases reported in the past appear to be closely related to the superficial type of pemphigus [2,7,9,23,29], and this makes a remarkable contrast to the fact that among various types of pemphigus, pemphigus vulgaris is much more common than the superficial types of pemphigus.…”

“…There are, however, rare cases with vesiculobullous diseases, having combined clinical and histological features of these dermatoses which have been reported under such terms as 'herpetiform pemphigus foliaceus' [7], 'acantholytic herpetiform dermatitis' [9], or 'mixed bullous disease' [2]. The authors encountered a patient with malignant thymoma in which both myasthenia gravis and peculiar vesiculobullous disease, having com bined features of pemphigus and dermatitis herpetiformis, were present.…”

“…Various terms have been used to describe this condition, such as acantholytic herpetiform dermatitis, 5 pemphigus controlled by sulfapyridine, 6 and mixed bullous disease. 7 Clinical manifestations consist of erythematous, urticarial plaques and vesicles that present in herpetiform arrangement. Histological findings of HP are variable and include eosinophilic spongiosis and subcorneal pustules with minimal or no apparent acantholysis.…”
