PurposeBlockchain is a developing technology that affects numerous industries, including facility management (FM). Many barriers are associated with adopting blockchain-enabled building information modeling (BEBIM) in FM. This research aims to identify and prioritize the barriers to adopting BEBIM in FM.Design/methodology/approachTo address the knowledge gap, this study employs a two-phase methodology for evaluating the barriers to adopting BEBIM in FM. The first phase involves a comprehensive literature review identifying 14 barriers to BEBIM adoption. Using a Delphi approach, the identified barriers were categorized into 6 groups and finalized by 11 experts, adding 3 more barriers to the list. The best-worst method (BWM) determines the priority weights of identified barriers and sub-barriers in the second phase.FindingsThis study reveals that adopting BEBIM for FM in India faces significant hurdles. The most critical barriers are “limited collaboration” and “communication among stakeholders,” “legal constraints in certain jurisdictions” and “challenges in establishing trust and governance models.” To mitigate these barriers, stakeholders should foster collaboration and communication, develop efficient blockchain technology (BT) and establish a trust and governance model.Practical implicationsThis work underscores the importance of formulating effective strategies to overcome the identified barriers and emphasizes implications that can assist policymakers and industry stakeholders in achieving successful BEBIM adoption for improved FM practice.Originality/valueThe study provides valuable insights for policymakers, construction industry stakeholders and facility managers interested in leveraging this technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of FM practice in India.

As regulatory authorities emphasize sustainable practices, manufacturing organizations rely on Industry 4.0 technologies to shift their business model from a linear to a circular economy. While intuitively this transformation seems straightforward, in reality, it is rather nuanced, thereby necessitating scholarly investigation into process‐based antecedents of circular economy performance of organizations. This study used structural equation modeling to analyze empirical data from 278 Indian manufacturers. Largely, the results demonstrate that the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies does have a significant effect on the performance of the circular economy within these organizations, owing to their strong influence on green procurement and remanufacturing activities. Additionally, the results show that these process activities (e.g., green procurement and remanufacturing) do mediate the interaction between the deployment of Industry 4.0 and circular economy performance.

The United Nations has described global warming as reaching a code red point for humanity and requires drastic measures to avert further terrible warming. Green procurement practices have been recognized as sustainable measures towards a low carbon trajectory, yet its implementation is still at the embryonic stage mainly due to weaknesses in organizational creativity skills and learning strategies. For the first time, we provide a theoretical framework that links stakeholder pressure, organizational learning, green procurement, and environmental performance within a public–private partnership environment. The analysis in this study is performed using the partial least square structural equation modelling and a sample of 295 respondents from Ghanaian infrastructure projects. Overall, we have found that exploratory and exploitative learning are necessary to translate stakeholder pressure to implement green procurement practices effectively. Also, firms that yield to stakeholder pressure develop their creative skills and increase their environmental performance. We recommend that managers should consider frequent market research and consistent stakeholder dialogue to create a culture of learning towards green practice implementation and promote environmental sustainability.
