This descriptive content analysis study was carried out to review students and pre-service teachers ' mental model of chemistry concepts. This study was motivated by difficulties experienced by students and teachers in the process of learning chemistry. This study put on criteria with specific keyword about a mental model in chemistry concepts and a period of 2009 till 2019 which relevant databases yielded a total of 66 articles. This study covers 41 qualitative studies, 18 quantitative studies, and this remains mix method studies. Article ' s aspects focused on such parameters as aim, method, sample, data collection tool, data analysis, chemistry concept, mental model theory, and recommendation of studies. Using content analysis, as a result was known that most studies used qualitative methods with a variety of data collection tools and data analysis techniques. Moreover, these mental models studies were mostly involved students who learned inorganic chemistry. General conclusions from this study in the importance form of the mental model exploration to master the chemistry concepts and this is intended to improve the chemistry learning process. This research also implies to do good innovative changes in various aspects to improve their scientific mental model. These changes include to innovate classroom practices, further researches, curriculum policy, and learning media developer.

Purpose This study isolates the effect of immersion on players’ learning in a virtual reality (VR)-based game about cellular biology by comparing two versions of the game with the same level of interactivityand different levels of immersion. The authors identify immersion and additional interactivity as two key affordances of VR as a learning tool. A number of research studies compare VR with two-dimensional or minimally interactive media; this study focuses on the effect of immersion as a result of the head mounted display (HMD). Design/methodology/approach In the game, players diagnose a cell by exploring a virtual cell and search for clues that indicate one of five possible types of cystic fibrosis. Fifty-one adults completed all aspects of the study. Players took pre and post assessments and drew pictures of cells and translation before and after the game. Players were randomly assigned to play the game with the HMD (stereoscopic view) or without the headset (non-stereoscopic view). Players were interviewed about their drawings and experiences at the end of the session. Findings Players in both groups improved in their knowledge of the cell environment and the process of translation. Players who experienced the immersive stereoscopic view had a more positive learning effect in the content assessment, and stronger improvement in their mental models of the process of translation between pre- and post-drawings compared to players who played the two-dimensional game. Originality/value This study suggests that immersion alone has a positive effect on conceptual understanding, especially in helping learners understand spatial environments and processes. These findings set the stage for a new wave of research on learning in immersive environments; research that moves beyond determining whether immersive media correlate with more learning, toward a focus on the types of learning outcomes that are best supported by immersive media.

The aim of this study was to develop a Prediction, Alternative conceptions, Refutation, Observation, Comparison and Scientific explanation (PAROCS) strategy to change students’ alternative concepts on inertia concept. The research method used is the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). Participants were 30 students (15 boys and 15 girls, their average age were 15-16) in class X of a public high school in Sukabumi, West Java. The instrument used is a four-tier diagnostic test. Data were analyzed based on a 4D model and conceptual category. At the disseminate stage, it shows an increase in scientific concepts and a decrease in alternative concepts after the application of the PAROCS strategy. From this, it can conclude that PAROCS strategy can be developed to change students’ alternative concepts into scientific concepts. Further studies could not only use the PAROCS strategy, but also develop this strategy for different physics concepts.
