Miniaturization of printed monopole antenna through fractal geometry and partial cutting methods for UHF application

Abstract: This paper reports an investigation on a combination of fractal geometry and half cutting methods in designing a printed monopole antenna for low frequency application. The effects of the combination of fractal shape and partial cutting methods to the printed monopole antenna performances were studied. All designs operate at the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band. The fractal geometry was proposed in order to shift down the resonant frequency while partial cutting method helps to a further reduction of the overal… Show more

“…Many approaches have been studied for miniaturizing MSA, the methods for miniaturization includes half-cutting method [7], using slits [8], using fractal geometry and partial cutting method [9], using shorting post and defected ground structure (DGS) [10]. These methods have significantly contributed to developing compact antennas.…”

“…However, the present new structure's dimension is slightly larger in working bandwidth. Some other ways [4][5] were also introduced to lessen the antenna's size, but the bandwidth of the monopole antenna still needs to be improved. More monopole antennas are designed in [6] [7] [8], and compact size and wide bandwidth are obtained, but the manufacturing difficulty is slightly higher.…”
