The concept of transparency is now an unescapable reference in public, professional, and private life. As transparency-making has recently transmuted from a progressive instrument to counter corruption into a new universal ideological formation, it is time to problematize the concept of transparency and its uses. In this article, I consider transparency not as a moral principle or static ideology but as a terrain of political struggle over its meaning and practices. An emerging literature in anthropology highlights how transparency has become a form of governance that leads to a sense of deprofessionalization in working life. Based on ethnographic research with activist networks and small-scale farmers in Italy, I investigate experiments with horizontal and inclusive forms of alternative transparency-making in food processing. I consider three interrelated emblematic frictions within these experiments: informal versus formal, top-down versus horizontal, and not-for-profit versus commercial. While these experimental forms of transparency-making allow small-scale farmers to reappropriate a sense of autonomy and professionalism, the frictions indicate that conventional and alternative transparency-making are not diametrically opposed. Frictions in emancipatory transparency-making repoliticize decision-making processes in ways that are unknown in contemporary concepts of transparency. Ultimately, the concept of emancipatory transparency-making calls for engagement in open dialogical processes.

El libro que presentamos recoge las aportaciones de expertos invitados y de relatores de algunos de los ámbitos del Congreso “Forma Urbis y territorios metropolitanos. Metrópolis enrecomposición. Prospectivas proyectuales del siglo XXI” y complementa las actas y publicaciones. Estos textos, leídos en conjunto o de modo individualizado, nos muestran diversasaproximaciones al tema común de la forma urbana en sus múltiples dimensiones. Veremosemos como las aproximaciones de las distintas ponencias toman un posicionamiento que másque integrador, proponen una multiplicidad de factores a tener en cuenta para observar lafenomenología de nuestras metrópolis. Se ve claramente en los fundamentos disciplinares delos distintos académicos y profesionales, pero también en las líneas de apertura de los propios conocimientos propios en beneficio de una nueva hibridación disciplinar.

The study developed by Ancsa* and Cresme** shows the current state of the Italian historic centers from the economic and demographic point of view, which is the starting point of the paper in reflecting on the Italian urban policies for the enhancement and preservation of the contemporary historic territory. Moreover, the paper aims to deeper investigate the phenomenon of marginality as arising from the application of the concept of "periphery" to historic centers. Starting from the analytical-interpretative methodology used in the Ancsa-Cresme 2017 report, our study follows an inductive method based on demographic, social and economic survey trends in the provincial capital cities. Although in a quantitative way, this approach reflects the trend Italian cities are going through, and is useful to outline the common characteristics of the marginality phenomenon of some historic centers. This general investigation represents the reference framework for the in-depth and comparative analysis of the case studies useful to understand the specific phenomena that are characterizing historic centers, as well as of the policies, strategies and planning outcomes for their regeneration. Due to their structure and morphology, historic centers are living and unique organisms, and it is thus difficult to plan a predefined and standardized urban policy framework. That is why, starting from a general framework, we deepen some case studies to outline the policies suitable for similar urban contexts.
