“…Five patients (1)(2)(3)(4)(5) were previously treated with various types of local flap to close the oro-nasal communication. Patient 1 was submitted to a previous surgical operation to close the defect with a tongue local flap.…”

“…Patient 1 was submitted to a previous surgical operation to close the defect with a tongue local flap. A palatal local flap was used in three cases (2)(3)(4), and a superiorly based pharyngeal flap from the posterior 724…”

“…To date, only a few cases of palatal perforation from cocaine inhalation 3,9,14,16,21,22 have been reported in the literature, and an efficient management protocol is far from being established. Several reconstructive techniques of the palate and different surgical options have been reported.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…Owens [ 19 ] ulzerierende Läsionen der Nasenschleimhaut als klinisches Zeichen des Kokainkonsums. Ausgeprägte Mittelgesichtsdestruktionen durch Kokain sind jedoch erst in den 1980er-Jahren beschrieben worden [ 20 ]. Die Erstbeschreibungen von Kokain-assoziierten Vaskulitissyndromen stammen auch aus dieser Zeit [ 21 ].…”

“…Endonasal administration is the usual access route for cocaine, subjecting the contained anatomic structures to particular risk. The nasal septum is the first and most common structure affected (Becker and Hill, 1988; Deutsch and Millard, 1989; Daggett et al, 1990; Mattson-Gates et al, 1991; Sastry et al, 1997; Lancaster et al, 2000; Mari et al, 2002; Seyer et al, 2002). Long-standing cocaine use can jeopardize the integrity of the turbinates, nasal floor mucosa, and ultimately the maxilla and palatal musculature.…”
