Abstract:AbstractThis paper covers findings obtained from the microgravity directional solidification of immiscible aluminum-indium alloys during the Life and Microgravity Spacelab Mission in 1996. Three alloys, one of monotectic composition and two alloys containing an excess of indium above the monotectic (i.e., hypermonotectic compositions) were solidified using the Advanced Gradient Heating Facility (AGHF). Samples were processed in specialized ampoule assemblies containing pistons and a high temperature spring in …
scite is a Brooklyn-based startup that helps researchers better discover and evaluate scientific articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by researchers from dozens of countries and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
