Microcephaly and Mental Retardation

Abstract: In a review of 202 microcephalic children evaluated at a child development center, from 7.5% to 13.5% were developing normally. More than half of these children, while not retarded, had evidence of brain damage or dysfunction. These 27 children are described. The variability in anthropometric studies is reviewed.

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD.
