MGF-Based Effective Capacity for Generalized Fading Channels

Abstract: In this paper, we study the effective capacity (EC) which was proposed to measure the quality of service (QoS) for fading channels. A unified expression for the effective capacity based on the method of moment generating function (MGF) is proposed. The unified expression applies to various fading channels and is derived for both single antenna and multiple antenna diversity system. The mathematical expression is illustrated with Nakagami-m fading channels and closed form expressions are derived in this case. T… Show more

“…The effective throughput (ET), which is also known as effective capacity is proposed to describe a wireless link aspect as quality‐of‐service metrics for the first time in the literature . Concordantly, the ET performance of different communication networks over various fading environments has been investigated . The ET of composite α − η − μ /gamma fading channel was examined by employing mixture Gamma and a mixture of Gaussian distributions .…”

“…Introduction: The concept of effective capacity (EC) is introduced to explicitly characterise wireless fading channels in terms of quality-of-service (QoS) metrics such as data rate, delay, and delayviolation probability [1]. In the literature, the EC performance has been analysed over different fading channels and various communication systems [2][3][4][5][6][7]. The EC performance of wireless communication systems over generalised k-m shadowed and a-h-m/gamma fading channels was investigated in [2,3], respectively.…”

“…In [4], the authors employed EC theory to characterise the maximum supported channel capacity over fading channels while considering both QoS constraints and energy consumption. A unified analysis for the EC-based moment generating function approach was proposed in [5,6]. The performance of EC in the context of smart grid communication networks was explored in [7].…”
