Methods of assessing flood resilience of critical buildings

Abstract: 2 3 4An overview is presented of recent advances in the assessment methods and mitigation solutions for the performance of critical buildings during flood events. This draws on research focusing on critical urban infrastructure, which is defined as assets that are essential for the continuity of economic activities in cities and for the basic living needs of the urban population. These assets include networks as well as buildings, the latter (termed 'critical buildings') having an important role in protecting … Show more

“…FReT are smart solutions, which refer to any product or material that improves the resilience of the built environment using building aperture technologies, perimeter technologies or building technologies [7,15]. During the last decade, the research on FReT includes many advances [17][18][19][20], leading to certain guidelines, test procedures, and standard regulations e.g., [15,[21][22][23][24].…”

“…The first paper is the product of research funded by the European Union from a multi-disciplinary British/Dutch research team that reports on the development and implementation of a range of screening tools (Escarameia et al, 2016). These tools operate at different scales and allow for the identification and assessment of the vulnerability of critical buildings and infrastructure, and so allows for their better protection and eventual repair if they are damaged.…”
