“…d 18 O values for magnesite, expressed relative to a calcite standard (V-PDB), should be corrected for the difference between magnesite and calcite in kinetic fractionation during liberation of CO 2 by reaction with phosphoric acid. Magnesite values for extractions at 25 or 50 C are most commonly corrected by subtracting 2.03% (Halfon and Marcé, 1975;Cañaveras et al, 1998;Lugli et al, 2002), as suggested by Aharon (1988), using data from Perry and Tan (1972) (10 3 lna 12.23 at 25 C for magnesite) and Friedman and O'Neil (1977) (10 3 lna 10.20 at 25 C for calcite). Using the same value for calcite and a revised value for magnesite (10 3 lna 11.93 at 25 C; Das Sharma et al, 2002), a slightly smaller correction is obtained (1.73%), which was applied to all measured values.…”
