“…To demonstrate the possibility of multifunctional corrosion mitigation capability, we discuss a specifi c nanoengineered, spray applied, amorphous metallic alloy reported previously and engineered for Al alloys (Tailleart et al , 2012;Presuel-Moreno et al , 2008;B. Gauthier, S. Eidelman and D. Book, 2007, unpublished PTS data;Goldman, 2005;Goldman et al , 2003;Presuel-Moreno et al , 2005a;.…”

“…Al-Co-Ce alloy coatings have been produced by both HVOF and PTS with thicknesses ranging from 75 to 600 μ m, often with good adhesion, low porosity and some roughness as seen in Plate X(a-d) Tailleart et al , 2012;Scully et al , 2008). Plate X(e) (see colour section between pages 174 and 175) shows an example of porosity which is typical of other spray coatings and lacks connection through porosity (Tailleart et al , 2012).…”

“…Due to their wide range of glass forming compositions and tuneable corrosion resistance, Al-Co-Ce alloys have attracted attention from corrosion protection engineers and scientists [2]. However, the high critical cooling rate required to achieve the amorphous state limits the dimensions of bulk samples.…”

“…Therefore, there is interest in using surface modification techniques to generate coatings or thin films of these amorphous materials. It has been reported that Tailleart et al [9] successfully prepared a largely amorphous Al-Co-Ce alloy coating on AA 2024 alloy by pulsed thermal spraying (PTS) and high velocity oxy-fuel spraying (HVOF) technologies using gas atomised powder as a feedstock. Kato et al [10] also prepared an Al-Co-Y coating using mechanical milled feedstock powder on the same substrate through plasma spraying with promising corrosion resistance after salt fog testing.…”
