Metallasupramolecular architectures, an overview of functional properties and applications

Abstract: The synthesis of metallasupramolecular architectures, such as two-dimensional squares, triangles and polygons, and three-dimensional cages and polyhedra, has attracted much interest in the past decade. These structures are designed to have novel specific shapes and dimensions with interesting functional properties. In this overview the functional properties of metallasupramolecular architectures are highlighted with emphasis on potential applications such as catalysis, cavity-directed synthesis and sensing, th… Show more

“…The robust, but reversible coordinative bond has played a key role in the self-assembly of supramolecular architectures, [15,18] and the earliest self-assembled host molecules relied on metal-ligand interactions. [19][20][21] Unlike most weak interactions, coordinative bonds offer a variety of bond strengths and geometries because of the variety of potential metal ions, ligands, and coordination geometries.…”

“…The chemistry of palladium(II) complexes is of considerable interest due to their potential applications in organic synthesis, catalysis and photo-physical chemistry [1][2][3]. The ligand mbitH molecule, with one -SH and two potential coordination nitrogen atoms, is excellent in building supramolecular structures [4,5].…”
