Metal–Ceramic Layered Materials and Composites Manufactured Using Powder Techniques

Abstract: The manufacturing of metal-ceramic composites was investigated as part of subproject "C3-CerMetComp" at the ECEMP Excellence Cluster in Dresden. Three different manufacturing technologies were investigated: (i) Thermal spraying for the preparation of metal-ceramic multilayers; (ii) tape casting of layered composites followed by a co-sintering step (in order to prevent defects during co-sintering the sintering behavior of the metallic material was adjusted to the shrinkage behavior of the ceramic); and (iii) ho… Show more

“…The power (P) and the total energy consumption (W) during electrodeposition process was calculated as P = U × I = 0.2 × 0.01 = 0.002W, and W = P × t = 0.002 × 7 × 24 × 3600 = 1209.6J. The volume and mass of the electrodeposited copper was 0.75 cm 3 . This estimation shows that the energy consumption in the electrodeposition process is more than 200-folds smaller than the molten metal infiltration process.…”

“…The production of composite material in last years has been developed incredibly especially material reinforced with fibers or particles or bristles, especially that are used in casting, powders technology or thermal spray coating [9,10]. Thermal spray is utmost methods among the spray techniques [11] which can be used with a wide range of material ranged [12] from the low melting points material to the high melting point material and the composite material [13]. It is used to obtain a physical and mechanical acceptable characteristic for the coating process.…”

“…Existing research on shear thickening systems has established that the best rheological properties are presented by fluids based on nano‐ and submicrosilica powder (solid phase) with polar organic matrix (liquid phase) . Silica as dry micro‐ and nanoparticles and colloidal suspensions are used in many other composite materials . Molecular weight and chemical structure of carrier fluid, solid loading, particle size distribution of the solid phase and interactions between them have meaningful impact on the dilatant properties.…”
