et al.

Abstract: Abstract. Bi, a high atom number element, has a high photoelectric absorption coefficient, and Se element has anticancer activity. Hence, their compound chalcogenide (Bi 2 Se 3 ) deserves a thorough investigation for biomedical applications. This study reveals that Bi 2 Se 3 nanoplates (54 nm wide) protected with poly(vinylpyrollidone) (PVP) are biocompatible and have low toxicity even at a high dose of 20 mg/kg in mice. This conclusion was made through the studies on the biodistribution and 90-day long term i… Show more

“…It has already been document that NPs < 5.5 nm can be cleared by the kidney, while large NPs > 50 nm may be partially cleared by the liver with the function of time 21 , 44 Zhang et al . (2014) 2 reported increased PVP coated Bi 2 Se 3 NPs accumulation in kidney after 90 days, which bears disparity with our findings. This discrepancy could be attributed to PVP coating over the NPs that could enhance blood circulation time and thus promoting particle absorption by kidney 27 , 45 .…”

“…Particle translocation and accumulation has also been observed in liver, a major target organ of RES, indicating systemic circulation of particles. Our results corroborated with the findings previously reported 2 . ICP-MS results revealed time dependent decrease in particle accumulation in lungs from 14 day to 180 day, whereas a considerable similar particle concentration was found in liver on 30 day and 90 day, clearly indicating retention of Bi 2 Se 3 NPs in RES 29 .…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…8c ). Considerable nanoparticle was also found in liver at this stage, which is consistent with previous reports that metabolizable BSe nanoparticles were mainly cleared by the liver 49 , 61 . All these results confirmed the high biofilm penetration and targeting of Dex-BSe nanoparticles, which guarantees their promising photothermal killing effect.…”

“…In addition, the Bi 2 Se 3 @PDA/DOX/HSA NPs exhibited excellent stability and good dispersion in water, phosphate buffer saline (PBS) and Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM) containing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS), without any macroscopic aggregates (Figure S4B), which was supported by the perfect linear increase of absorbance with the NPs concentration (Figure S4C,D). Similar to previously reports, 17 the naked Bi 2 Se 3 NPs in this work were also unstable, showing sediment at the bottom of the sample bottle and color change from black to brown a few days after dispersion in water and kept at room temperature. On the contrary, the color and dispersion of Bi 2 Se 3 @PDA/DOX/HSA NPs remained unchanged over 6 weeks.…”
