Abstract: During fetal development, mesenchymal progenitor (MP) cells are co-localized in major hematopoietic territories, such as yolk sac (YS), bone marrow (BM), liver (LV), and others. Studies using mouse and human MP cells isolated from fetus have shown that these cells are very similar but not identical to adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). Their differentiation potential is usually restricted to production of highly committed osteogenic and chondrogenic precursors. Such properties of fetal MP cells can be very us… Show more

“…No teratomas were observed in the carcinogenic potential assay, and similar findings were described by Vidane et al (2014) and Wenceslau et al, (2011) in other MSC lineages.…”

“…Cells in the third passage were submitted to osteogenic, adipogenic, and chondrogenic differentiation. After 21 days, morphological changes were observed, which were consistent with osteogenic, adipogenic, and chondrogenic cells, similar to the findings in MSCs (Dominici et al, 2006;Alves, 2009 [unpublished findings];Bydlowski et al, 2009;Wenceslau et al, 2011;Vidane et al, 2014).…”

“…Thus, the data indeed revealed stem cells or the progenitor nature of these cells similar to what was seen to be characteristic for mesenchymal stem cells (e.g. Wenceslau et al 2012;Dominici et al 2006;Picciotti et al 2006).…”

“…Media containing DMEM-High glucose and DMEM-F12 (1:1) have been proven to be successful for culturing rodent cochlea cells and were suitable for the applied purposes (Chao et al 2013;White et al 2012;Diensthuber et al 2009;Yerukhimovich et al 2007;Savary et al 2007;Martinez-Monedero and Edge 2007;Doetzlhofer et al 2004;Li et al 2003). In our adherent cultures, cochlear epithelial cells have typical fibroblast-like morphology, as observed for other mesenchymal stem cell cultures, including multipotentiality (Favaron et al 2014;Chao et al 2013;Wenceslau et al 2012). In contrast, rodent cochlea tissues so far were cultured in suspension with induction factors N2 and/or B27 (Yerukhimovich et al 2007).…”

“…O termo totipotentes refere-se ao potencial que estas células têm de gerar um embrião completo (o embrião propriamente dito e os anexos embrionários) (MARTIN, 1981;EVANS et al, 2003;WANG et al, 2005;ARCE et al, 2007;BREVINI et al, 2007;YU et al, 2008;KUIJK et al, 2010;LEDDA et al, 2010;WENCESLAU et al, 2011).…”
