Show more

“…The measures of the same point after the treatment provide important data, indicating that there was a re-fit of the smile symmetry: 98.02mm on the right side and 95.04 on the left side, showing balance of the two sides. Other articles in the literature also indicate positive results at the end of the therapy period like Salvador et al 2013, in which the rehabilitation of a group of patients with facial paralysis was described, using the caliper rule for measurements that indicate an improvement of movements at the end of the study 13 . Tessitore et al (2009) 14 describe the application of a orofacial rehabilitation protocol in a group and conclude that the protocol of speech-language rehabilitation was effective for that sample.…”

“…taken by digital caliper was efficient for determining the gain obtained during therapy and helped to remove the idea of an empirical prognosis for the treatment of facial paralysis, besides giving greater precision to the descriptions and subsidies to quantify its evolution 16,25 .…”

“…In these studies 22,25,33 the instrument 37 verified the aesthetic/functional symmetry of the face. The muscle groups in each hemiface were assessed in different voluntary facial expressions, scoring zero (0) if there was no movement; one (1) if there was a partial or moderate movement; and two (2) if there was a complete or sharp movement.…”

“…One study 25 performed surface EMG assessment based on the methodology of a previous study 30 , assessing the muscle groups involved in smiling (risorius and zygomaticus). The electrical activity of the risorius and zygomaticus muscles was assessed in both hemifaces.…”
