Membrane Location of Syntaxin-Binding Protein 1 Is Correlated with Poor Prognosis of Lung Adenocarcinoma

Abstract: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death, and adenocarcinoma is the most common histological type of lung cancer. Syntaxin-binding protein 1 (STXBP1) is essential for exocytosis of secretory vesicles. Since exocytosis is the basic cellular process of cells, we investigated STXBP1 expression and clinical significance in lung adenocarcinoma. We performed quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in 20 pairs of lung adenocarcinoma and paired normal tissues, and demonstrated that the relativ… Show more

“…In addition, abnormal expression of STXBP1 also plays an important role in many diseases. It has been reported that STXBP1 is highly expressed in LUAD ( 51 ), which is different from this study’s results. This study analyzed and experimentally verified the LUAD data from TCGA and GEO databases, and the results showed that STXBP1 was lowly expressed in tumors.…”

“…Syntaxin binding protein 1 (STXBP1) encodes a syntaxin-binding protein, which plays a role in release of neurotransmitters via regulation of syntaxin (a transmembrane attachment protein receptor) (Rezazadeh et al, 2019). A recent article reported the relationship between STXBP1 and prognosis of LUAD (Wang et al, 2020). They observed that STXBP1 expression phenotypes could be categorized as membrane, cytoplasm, and mixed expression (both membrane and cytoplasm), revealing that entire STXBP1 phenotypes or membrane phenotypes were closely connected with poor prognosis of LUAD and considered as independent prognostic factors of LUAD.…”

“…STXBP1 encodes a syntaxinbinding protein that modulates the release of neurotransmitters [27]. In lung cancer, STXBP1 was found to be down-regulated but was identified as a prognosis-related gene in both lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients [28,29]. RPS27L is a p53-repressible target [30].…”
