“…We recognize only 25 of the 47 species treated by Cogniaux (1891) and relegate a total of 44 epithets to synonymy. Since that time selected species have been included in many regional checklists or geographically defined local floras (Harley & Simmons 1986;Semir & Martins 1987;Martins 1991;Woodgyer 1995;Munhoz & Proença 1998: Romero & Martins 2002Woodgyer et al 2003;Matsumoto & Martins 2005;Rodrigues 2005;Santos & Silva 2005;Faria et al 2006;Hatschbach et al 2006;Chiavegatto & Baumgratz 2007;Drummond et al 2007;Kinoshita et al 2007;Faria 2008;Silva & Romero 2008;Alves & Kolbek 2009;Martins et al 2009a;Martins et al 2009b;Santos et al 2009;Meirelles & Goldenberg 2012;Forzza et al 2013;Goldenberg et al 2014;Maia & Goldenberg 2014;Pirani et al 2015;Versiane et al 2016;Pacifico 2017). “… Microlicia gracilis resembles Microlicia ramosa Pilger, which is endemic to Goiás ( Flora do Brasil 2020 ), for both species have branch, leaf, hypanthium and sepal covered with setose trichomes and spherical glands, sessile and ascending leaf blade, pedicellate flower, triangular sepal, magenta petal and dimorphic stamens with bicolorous and polysporangiate anthers. However, M. ramosa differs in having a typical branching pattern in which the branches have short secondary branches ( Versiane et al 2016 ), discolorous leaf (darker adaxial surface), ovate or ovate-lanceolate leaf blade with rounded or cordate base, longer pedicel (ca. 1 mm long) and the petal acute or retuse at the apex.…”

“…However, M. ramosa differs in having shorter secondary branches, 3–5-veined leaf and a vinaceous or greenish hypanthium often with vinaceous stains. Microlicia xylopodifera also resembles M. ordinata (Wurdack) Almeda & A.B.Martins, which is endemic to Goiás ( Versiane et al 2016 ; Machado and Romero 2020 ), in having branch, leaf, hypanthium and sepal covered with glandular trichomes and spherical glands, sessile and discolorous leaf, ovate-lanceolate leaf blades that are rounded or cordate at the base, triangular sepal and dimorphic stamens with bicolorous and polysporangiate anthers. However, M. ordinata has leaf with larger dimensions (5–20 × 2.5–13.5 mm), 3–5-veined, shorter pedicel (ca.…”

“… Microlicia deflexa also bears some resemblance to Microlicia helvola (Spreng.) Triana, which occurs in Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso and Minas Gerais States ( Romero et al 2020 ; Versiane et al 2020 ) in campo limpo, campo sujo and the edges of vereda and swamp areas ( Bacci et al 2016 ; Versiane et al 2016 ) and less frequently in cerrado rupestre ( Machado and Romero 2020 ). Microlicia deflexa and M. helvola are subshrub or shrub with sessile leaf or with a short petiole, acute at the apex, rounded at the base and 3–5-veined.…”
