Abstract: The neuropeptide ␣-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (␣-MSH) inhibits inflammation by down-regulating the expression of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-␣ (TNF-␣) in leukocytes via stimulation of ␣-MSH cell surface receptors.
