“…In (Hörhold et al, 2016) the good performance of shear clinched joints compared to state of the art process clinching with pre-hole is described. Main topic of this paper is the joint formation and load capacity of shear-clinched specimens with regard of the specimen´s rigidity due to geometry and joining material.…”

“…The analysis of the geometric features indicates that punch-sided sheet materials with a lower strength cause the reduction of the material volume in the joining zone and therefore of the residual bottom thickness t b . Also the lower resistance of the material against the intrusion of the outer punch leads to the reduction of the upper neck thickness t un , which is critical for the load bearing capacity [10]. Therefore, even though AA5182-O was successfully shear-clinched with 22MnB5, it can be assumed that there is a lower limit regarding the strength for the processible punch-sided sheet material, which depends on the mechanical properties of the die-sided sheet.…”

“…Due to the similarity between shear-clinched joints and clinching with pre-hole, the latter serves as reference and illustrates the reproducible fracture angle of the die-sided material. Therefore, the influence of the cutting angle on the load bearing capacity was investigated by clinching with pre-hole [10]. For this reason, the results of clinching with cylindrical pre-holes and clinching with tapered pre-holes were compared.…”
