Mass Spectrometry of Some High Molecular Weight Aliphatic Acids and Their Methyl Esters. Analysis of Nonanoic and 2-Ethylheptanoic Acid Mixtures

Abstract: The mass spectra are given of nonanoic, 2-ethylheptanoic, 2,5-diethylhexanedioic, 2-ethyloctanedioic, and decanedioic acids with the methyl esters of these acids. Quantitative methods are described for the analysis of nonanoic and 2-ethylheptanoic acid mixtures as well as mixtures of the respective methyl esters. Data are given for the precision and accuracy of the methods. By using a diazomethane esterification procedure, the C-9 monobasic and C-10 dibasic acids were quantitatively converted to their methyl e… Show more

“…It is used as a detector for gas chromatography {318) and also to determine the amine acid sequence {56). Trent and Miller (485) analyze high molecular weight aliphatic acids and their methyl esters. Zlotowski and Wincel {529) study the chemical processes occurring in a self-quenching Geiger-Müller counter filled with pentane, hexane, or heptane.…”
