“…The following conditions have been shown to significantly reduce the MLD: Meniere's disease (Schoeny & Carhart, 1971), VIIIth nerve lesions , pontomedullary brainstem lesions (Lynn, Gilroy, Taylor & Leiser, 1981), multiple sclerosis and interaural threshold differences of over 15dB . Because cortical level lesions have not been shown to reduce MLDs (Cullen & Thompson, 1979;Lynn et al, 1981), MLD tests have become an important addition to the clinical test batteries for the purpose of differentiating cortical from brainstem lesions. Sweetlow and Reddel (1978) have shown abnormally low MLDs in a population having auditory perceptual problems and Waryas (1982) has described abnormally low MLDs in individuals having learning disabilities.…”
