Exploring the conceptual structure of the auditing discipline through co‐word analysis: An international perspective

The purpose of this study was to explore the conceptual structure of the auditing discipline between 2000 and 2016, by synthesizing keywords cited in 2,119 articles published in 24 accounting and auditing journals, using co-word analysis and social network analysis (SNA). We aimed to highlight dominant, fading, and emerging themes in the discipline across the periods and across continents. The main outputs of this study can be summarized as follows. The consistent decline in fragmentation, and the increase in connectedness, within the SNA showed that the auditing discipline became an increasingly tight and more cohesive network. While the generic keywords auditing and auditor were used far less frequently in the final period of the study, the keywords audit quality, audit fees, internal control, financial reporting quality, and continuous auditing were increasingly cited across the study periods. Moreover, regional analyzes unveiled similarities and differences between territories.

The study of tax evasion generally has common directions in all countries. However, there is also some national specificity, conditioned by the level of development, features of the economy or traditions. The study of this specificity is the subject of this work. This paper continues the bibliometric analyzes of the publications relating to the problem of tax evasion starting in the Journal of Tax Reform in 2016. We set the goal of comparing Russian-language and English-language scientific publications to identify the characteristics of the tax evasion study as a sphere of scientific knowledge using bibliometric methods. This article analyzes the Russian and English language publications relating to the problem of tax evasion published in eLIBRARY.RU, RePEc and SSRN till the end of 2016. The study was conducted by comparing the publication activity by types and the period of publications. In the first stage of the study we did the qualitative content analysis by identification the common themes discussed in the publications. Then, a quantitative analysis was conducted by comparing the publications on a particular topic from each source. We used bibliometric analysis method for the quantitative and bibliographic mapping method to visualize the results of the research. Calculations were performed using the software QDA Miner v.5.0 with WordStat module v.7.1.7. As a result, the study concluded that tax evasion is comprehended mostly as a criminal problem in Russia. It means that scientists and society as a whole are not ready to deal with sociodemographic and moral-ethical issues of tax evasion and to take into consideration institutional environment and market conditions to counteract the phenomenon KEYWORDS Tax evasion, bibliometrics, bibliometric analysis, content analysis, scientific publications, electronic publications database HIGHLIGHTS 1. Bibliometric analyzes proved the presence of considerable differences in studying of tax evasion in Russian language and English language scientific literature 2. Characteristics of high‐impact agronomic journals

Agronomy journals form a core part of the process of scholarly communication and scientific research in the agronomic field. Determining the key features of high-impact agronomic journals will be a central component for identifying the disciplinary development in the field of agronomy. In this study, we conducted a bibliometric study to fill this knowledge gap based on 64,703 articles published in 18 main agronomy journals since 1948 derived from the Scopus database. Our main findings were that (a) over 20% of publications in Advances in Agronomy and Agricultural and Forest Meteorology received more than 50 citations; (b) authors from the United States, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia published the most articles in these journals, comprising 22.4, 11.5, 10.7, 8.7, and 8.0% of the total number of publications, respectively; and (c) journals published in a given country had a greater number of papers published by authors of that country than by authors of other countries. Furthermore, three clusters for these 18 journals were identified that included the topics of agronomy, interactions between agronomy and soil sciences, and interactions between agronomy and plant sciences. The results of this study provide valuable insights regarding the current state of and future development trends in agronomic journals. 1 INTRODUCTION Agronomy is defined as the application of various soil and plant sciences to improve field management and crop production (Sumberg, Thompson, & Woodhouse, 2013). Agronomy integrates various scientific disciplines and mainly deals with crop calendars, genotypes, plant populations, fertilizers and manures, irrigation, management of biotic and abiotic stresses, climate and weather impacts on agriculture, and development and validation of cropping and farming systems (Rana & Kumar, 2014).
