Manipulation and force as sexual coercion tactics: conceptual and empirical differences

Abstract: This study examines the relationship between perpetrator characteristics, situational characteristics, and type of sexual coercion tactics used to obtain sexual contact (including sexual intercourse) with an unwilling partner. Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. “…Additionally, CUR engagement was more likely among participants who had stronger coping sex motives over the 32-day period on average and on days with stronger daily power-related sex motives. These results also support past findings highlighting these two sex motives as risk factors for sexual aggression and sexual risk behaviors, including coercive CUR (Davis et al, 2022; Hoffmann & Verona, 2019; Lisak & Roth, 1990; Lyndon et al, 2007; Smith et al, 2015).
