Traditional ecological knowledge and utilization of rice in Sukoharjo District, Central Java, Indonesia. Intl J Bonorowo Wetlands 13: 78-85. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of Indonesia's staple foods and a source of income for some communities. Sukoharjo District is one of Central Java's most promising rice producing areas. In managing rice farming, the community incorporates local knowledge and discovers collective understanding about rice plants. The research was conducted to determine the existence of TEK (Traditional Ecological Knowledge) in Sukoharjo District, Central Java, Indonesia in managing rice varieties and influencing factors, as well as to learn about the community's perception of rice plants; the research employs a qualitative and quantitative ethnobiological approach. The results showed that although agriculture in Sukoharjo District is included in semi-modern agriculture, the community has TEK, which includes various rice varieties and paddy fields. Farmers in Sukoharjo District still use Inpari 32 rice varieties to manage their paddy fields instead of other varieties. Rice is widely used in various traditions, such as syukuran, weddings, kenduren, bersih desa, and rasulan. Many parts of the rice plant are also used, such as rice stems (straw), grain, husks, bran, and rice. A small part of the Sukoharjo community uses rice as an important role in cultural behavior and in maintaining the rice varieties' biodiversity well. In managing agriculture, some communities still use traditional techniques and adjustments to modern technology, such as using modern tools and human labor to plant seeds. The application of rice in every activity of the people of Sukoharjo District shows a complex relationship between humans and nature.

Cropping pattern planning is important to avoid crop failure. Meanwhile, cropping patterns are affected by climate change, which is constantly shifting and erratic. Mistakes in determining the planting schedule will affect the risk of crop failure. Hence, climate forecast using long-term hydro-climatological data must be conducted as cropping patterns are mapped for a multi-year period. Data was collected from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency in Lombok Island. This paper discusses the combination of backpropagation and relevance vector machine with RBF kernel. We utilized BP-RVM architecture with three hidden layers to improve the performance of the network. This combination is utilized because of the BP algorithm's ability to simplify data pattern recognition and RVM to speed up and reduce the number of iterations for each data training-testing process. The evapotranspiration of each crop was then calculated using the FAO24 Blaney-Criddle method. Based on the forecasting, the average MAPE was below 20%, which indicates "good forecasting". The evapotranspiration values of CGPRT and horticultural crops were almost the same with an average of 2.79 mm/day and 2.78 mm/day. These values are lower than the evapotranspiration values of tobacco and rice. Finally, based on the calculation of each crop's water requirement throughout the year, it was recommended to start the first planting season at the end of October. The results of this study can be recommended to the government to apply the BP-RVM algorithm in forecasting hydro-climatological data and optimizing cropping patterns to avoid crop failure and maintain the stability of national food security.

Innovation to produce upland rice superior varieties is by developing local upland rice varieties with high yield and lodging resistance. Upland rice varieties also must have high adaptability in suboptimal land. This research aims to identify and determine the upland rice line F8 that is tolerant to lodging with high yielding potential.The research was carried out from September 2021 to January 2022 in Balunijuk Village Rice Fields, Bangka Regency. This research was conducted using an experimental method. The design used was a Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatments consisted of 5 F8 lines and 5 comparison varieties. Data analysis used ANOVA followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that generally upland rice genotypes were not able to adapt to inundation conditions, low pH, and Fe stress. Genotypes that were able to adapt were PBM UBB 1 (red rice), Danau Gaung and 21B-57-21-21-23 line (white rice), with the lodging index of 0% for these three genotypes, and a Fe toxicity scale with a value of sensitive. The genotype with the lowest yield was Inpago 8 and 23F-04-10-18-18 line. Genotypes with leaf length, number of grain per panicle, number and weight of pithy seeds per plant height increased seed yield/plot.
