As the biggest proportion of hospital personnel, Iranian nurses have a major role in providing quality care to patients. Nursing managers and nurses no longer feel that nurses' work is valued and they are concerned about their productivity. Nurses' views about productivity and management factors affecting it have been identified as the most important aspects affecting productivity. Thus, this study assesses productivity from the nurse's view. A grounded theory approach was used for this research. Purposive sampling and semistructured interviews were used. The data were analyzed using constant comparative analysis. Most participants felt that the qualitative nature (effectiveness) of productivity is very important. Also, participants indicated that management is the most important factor that can promote or impede their productivity. They suggested that managers' performance and their skill level are the factors influencing productivity. Effective management can improve nurses' productivity and the quality of care that nurses provide.

This study aimed at studying factors influencing the productivity of knowledge workers at the Iranian Oil Company (IOC) through factor analysis. Ninety experts working at the staff units of IOC were selected and responded to a researcher-made questionnaire. This questionnaire, the reliability of which was confirmed by Cronbach , included 50 items. Findings were analysed through second-order factor analysis using LISREL software. Findings revealed job satisfaction and capability were the individual factors which impacted productivity. In addition, of the organisational factors, participation, education, motivation and organisational communication influenced productivity. Finally, role clarity, challenging work and autonomy were the occupational factors affecting the variable. Indices for the fitness of the model 460 A. Noruzy et al.were root mean square error of approximation, adjusted goodness-of-fit index, goodness-of-fit index and comparative fit index with their scores being 0.062, 0.91, 0.94 and 0.93, respectively, indicative of the appropriate fitness for the model.

The present study aims to contribute new knowledge to the existing literature on workplace learning and job performance. Particularly, the study analyzes contemporary literature on workplace learning and job performance, specifically formal and informal learning as well as employee task performance and contextual performance. The study hypothesized that informal, incidental and formal workplace learning have direct positive significant relationships with employee task and contextual performance.
