Maintaining Hair Inductivity in Human Dermal Papilla Cells: A Review of Effective Methods

Abstract: The dermal papilla comprises mesenchymal cells in hair follicles, which play the main role in regulating hair growth. Maintaining the potential hair inductivity of dermal papilla cells (DPCs) and dermal sheath cells during cell culture is the main factor in in vitro morphogenesis and regeneration of hair follicles. Using common methods for the cultivation of human dermal papilla reduces the maintenance requirements of the inductive capacity of the dermal papilla and the expression of specific dermal papilla bi… Show more

“…Gentile showed the HD-AFSCs show positivity for CD44, CD100, CD200, and S100A4 which represent the early progeny of stem cells and help in the expression with the growth of keratinocytes [ 34 ]. MSC cells express Wnt/ β -catenin signalling molecules which have been shown as a fundamental factor that augments hair growth [ 36 , 37 ]. There also occurs expression of VEGF, TGF- β , IGF-1, IGFBP-1to-6, M-CSF, M-CSFR, PDGF, PDGFR- β /- α 64, PGE2, and PGF2 α which all contributes in the hair regrowth [ 38 ].…”

“…DPCs can interact with other cells in hair follicles and are able to release various cytokines to activate several pathways which control the differentiation of the matrix cells and regulate hair growth and development. 36 With the capability to resist environmental pressure, the matrix cells can also respond more quickly to the regulation of cytokines and signaling pathways and fast differentiate into various structures of the hair follicle, such as outer root sheath cells, internal root sheath cells, keratinocytes.…”

“…Human DPCs are mesenchymal cells isolated from the hair papilla of healthy scalp hair follicles. In the adult hair follicle, hair papilla plays a key role in controlling hair production and hair growth ( 113 ). PAM treatment at an appropriate concentration and duration was found to arrest cell proliferation and cell cycle of DPCs, which could gradually recover.…”
