The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of Bacillus subtilis PB6 supplementation on productive performance, egg quality and hatchability of broiler breeder hens. A total of 20,000 broiler breeder hens (ROSS 308), 57 weeks old, were assigned to the two equal groups as follows: The first group was fed a basal diet and the second group was fed the basal diet that supplemented with the Bacillus subtilis PB6 (2 × 10 7 cfu/g) at the rate of 1 g/kg of diet. Results indicated that adding Bacillus subtilis significantly improves egg production (P < 0.05). The body weights and egg weight were not affected by the dietary treatments (P > 0.05) but Bacillus subtilis improved the egg haugh unit (P < 0.05). Adding Bacillus subtilis significantly increased hatching egg, eggshell thickness and egg hatchability (P < 0.05). A highly significant improvement was noticed in the faecal score of the group fed with Bacillus subtilis (P < 0.01). Adding Bacillus subtilis increased the level of total cholesterol (P < 0.01) and decreased the blood heterophil to lymphocyte ratio (P < 0.01) in breeders' serum. It is concluded that Bacillus subtilis PB6 supplementation at the level of 1 g/kg of broiler breeder diet, significantly improve the egg production, egg quality, hatchability, faecal score and return on investment.

Analysis of Climate Change Perception on Poultry Production in Imo State, Nigeria

This study aims at analyzing climate change perception of poultry production in Imo State, Nigeria. Data used for the study were obtained using a structured questionnaire from eighty-four (84) respondents who were randomly selected from twelve villages in the study area. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple regression models and Likert scale. Findings revealed that the mean age of the respondents was 45 years, mean household size was 6 persons, 60% were male, mean years of experience was 9.1years, majority of them attended tertiary education. The multiple regression analysis showed that ambient temperature, humidity, rainfall distribution, mortality and feed unavailability were statistically significant at 10% level of probability and were the key determinants of the effect of climate change. The coefficient of multiple determination R2 was 0.725544 which implies that 72.55% variation in poultry output was accounted for by the regressors variables while the remaining 27.5% was due to random disturbance. From the distribution of poultry farmers according to the perception of climate change, the result showed that 89% and 74% of the poultry farmers were aware that climate change has an effect on egg and meat production, and also feed grain availability respectively. About 90% of them were aware that high sunshine harms egg production, also, 74% and 71% of them were aware that high temperature and low rainfall leads to low egg quality. The study, therefore, recommended that relevant and up-to-date information on climate change should be made available to poultry farmers.

Kemitraan pola dagang umum ialah pelaksanaan kemitraan yang dilakukan dalam bentuk kerjasama pemasaran, penyediaan lokasi usaha, atau penerimaan pasokan dari usaha mikro, kecil, dan/atau menengah oleh usaha besar yang dilakukan secara terbuka. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengevaluasi akses peternak ayam pedaging sistem kemitraan pola dagang umum dan menemukan model pengembangannya. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Januari-Juni 2018 di Kabupaten Malang, Jawa Timur. Responden adalah semua peternak ayam pedaging sistem kemitraan pola dagang umum dengan jumlah 126 orang yang ditentukan secara purposive sampling. Data dianalisis menggunakan metode Structural Equation Model (SEM) dengan aplikasi SmartPLS 2.0. Hasil penelitian didapatkan evaluasi bahwa peternak ayam pedaging sistem kemitraan pola dagang umum mempunyai akses terhadap sumber daya finansial, teknologi, fisik, ekonomi, lingkungan, dan sosial. Sumber daya tersebut bersama dengan SDM peternak berpengaruh terhadap pengembangan usaha ternak sebesar 51,6%. Kesimpulan penelitian yaitu pengembangan usaha ternak ayam pedaging sistem kemitraan pola dagang umum harus memperhatikan akses peternak terhadap sumber daya fisik, sumber daya ekonomi, dan sumber daya sosial.
