“…The nasal cavity of terrestrial and semi‐aquatic turtles is separated into two diverticula by several grooves or fossae (Bartol & Musick, 2003; Nakamuta, Nakamuta, Kato, & Yamamoto, 2016; Nakamuta, Yokosuka, Taniguchi, Yamamoto, & Nakamuta, 2016; Parsons, 1959; Schwenk, 2008; Taniguchi & Taniguchi, 2014), whereas that of sea turtles is more complicated (Parsons, 1968; Saito, Shoji, Uchida, & Ueda, 2000; Schwenk, 2008). We recently described four distinctive structures, namely anterodorsal, anteroventral and posterodorsal diverticula and a posteroventral excavation, in the nasal cavity of juvenile green sea turtles in detail (Kondoh et al, 2019; Kondoh, Kitayama, Aiko, & Yamaguchi, 2020).
