Abstract: Efficient photo- and piezoelectric-induced molecular oxygen activation are both achieved by macroscopic polarization enhancement on a noncentrosymmetric piezoelectric semiconductor BiOIO . The replacement of V ions for I in IO polyhedra gives rise to strengthened macroscopic polarization of BiOIO , which facilitates the charge separation in the photocatalytic and piezoelectric catalytic process, and renders largely promoted photo- and piezoelectric induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) evolution, such as super… Show more

“…The additional peak at c . 531.6 eV was ascribed to the presence of O from the hydroxyl group . This result suggests that the electron moved between the Ti and the Si atom via the movement of the intermediate O atom, which resulted in the formation of Si‐O‐Ti bonds …”

“…The enhanced charge separation promotes photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue . Our group also uncovered that ionic substitution in BiOIO 3 crystal strengthens the distortion of the IO 3 polyhedron, which induces enhanced macroscopic polarization, and consequently promotes bulk charge separation and oxygen activation for producing superoxide radicals (•O 2 − ) and hydroxyl radicals (•OH) …”

“…BiOCl-50, BiOCl-100, and BiOCl-200 samples all exhibited higher H 2 generation activities than BiOCl-10 ( Figure S11), and BiOCl-100 shows the optimal performance among the series samples.T he H 2 production rate of BiOCl-100 (12.49 mmol g À1 h À1 )i sa pproximately 2.1 times that of BiOCl-10 (5.99 mmol g À1 h À1 ;F igure 2a). [23] Thegeneration rate of COH concentration over BiOCl-100 in N 2 was determined to be 11.66 10 À7 mol g À1 h À1 ,w hich reaches 17.67 times higher than that of BiOCl-10 (0.66 10 À7 mol g À1 h À1 ) ( Figure 2b and Figure S12). COH is an important reactive oxygen radical (ROS), which is generally produced via H 2 OorOH À oxidation by photo-induced h + .…”
