Macrophyte response to the protection and restoration measures of four water bodies

Abstract: Macrophytes are a good long‐term indicator of quality of aquatic ecosystems and are essential for the proper functioning of the entire lake ecosystem. Submerged vegetation is considered to be indicative of an improvement of the ecological status of these lakes. Here, we analyzed the distribution, structure, and diversity of vegetation communities in four eutrophic water bodies (postglacial lakes: Sławskie and Uzarzewskie and man‐made lakes: Maltański Reservoir and Turawa Średnia Reservoir) after the applicatio… Show more

“…Artificial islands, enclosures, and other protecting installations have been applied to locally reduce resuspension and allow an establishment of macrophytes (Hussner et al, 2014 [ 79 ]). Restoration success can be substantially improved if several measures are combined (Kozak and Gołdyn 2016 [ 117 ]).…”

“…The excessive external load has resulted in very low water quality [12]. Very often cyanobacterial water blooms were noted, which excluded the lake from recreational use [13,14]. For this reason, in 2006, restoration treatments have been started.…”
