Lymph node metastasis of osteosarcomas

Show more

“…These two types of metastasis might together reflect the divergent traits of metastasis of different bone sarcomas. Another important factor predictive of RLNM was larger tumor size (>12 cm), which has been reported to be a risk factor for RLNM of osteosarcoma (22). This reminds clinical surgeons that more attention should be paid to RLNM when resecting tumor with a large size.…”

“…Constitutional symptoms and lymph node metastasis are less common in osteosarcoma. Age ≥64 years; female sex; undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, osteosarcoma, or chondrosarcoma; increased tumor depth; and primary tumor size are the risk factors of lymph node metastasis, which significantly reduces patient 5-year survival [ 4 ]. A detailed history taking is crucial to diagnosis.…”

“…Uncontrolled local disease and subsequent recurrence occurs in about 33%‐69% of patients and is the most common cause of mortality. Lymph node metastasis is considered to comprise 4%‐11% of osteosarcomas . Because regional metastasis to the lymph nodes of the neck is rare, neck dissection is not mandatory and indicated only in the presence of clinically positive neck results.…”
