In vitro Micropropagation, Total Phenolic Content and Comparative Antioxidant Activity of Different Extracts of Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers.

Abstract: Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers. is a common traditional medicinal plant used in bronchitis, anaemia, headache, fever, ophthalmia, nasal catarrh, leprosy, inflammation, gout and rheumatism. The present study aimed to assess plant regeneration and plantlets development in vitro using explants of S. grandiflora together with the estimation of total phenolic content and antioxidative activity of various extracts obtained from the plant. Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium added with different concentrations of p… Show more

“…5). In coincidence with our work, Vinothini et al (2017) obtained calluses of S. grandiflora from cotyledons, nodal and internodal sections; grown in MS medium with different hormones. These calluses formed after a week of incubation with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D).…”

“…Nowadays, there is an increasing interest of scientists in the in vitro cultures of many valuable medicinal plants to fulfil their market demand: This includes Agastya ( Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers. ), a well-known remedy for bronchitis, headaches, fevers, and anaemia [58]. In addition, the genetic material of such plants can also be used in culture techniques for their growth and multiplication, as well as for the improvement of their secondary metabolites.…”
