Low-Complexity Blind Selected Mapping Scheme for Peak-to-Average Power Ratio Reduction in Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing Systems

Abstract: Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is an attractive multicarrier technique for the simplicity of equalization and high data throughput. However, the transmitted OFDM signal has a very high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which severely degrades the performance of practical OFDM systems and reduces the efficiency of high-power amplifiers (HPA). The selected mapping (SLM) scheme is an effective PAPR reduction method of OFDM signals. However, this approach usually requires side information (SI)… Show more

“…In order to describe the probability that the amplitude of the signal takes on the value less than or equal to a certain level, the cumulative distribution function (CDF) is commonly adopted [24]. According to (14), the CDF of |x(n)| can be expressed as…”

“…The commonly used distortionless-based techniques include selective mapping (SLM), partial transmit sequence (PTS) and so on. They achieve the PAPR reduction by constructing multiple alternative signals and selecting the signal with the Information 2020, 11, 113 2 of 11 lowest PAPR signal for transmission [14]. These methods usually do not cause nonlinear distortion, but require high computational complexity and side-band information to be transmitted [15,16].…”

“…Its principle consists of generating U alternative sequences and choosing the one that has the minimum PAPR value [7,8]. Several improvements and variants of the SLM method have been proposed to reduce its complexity [8] by avoiding side information [9,10]. Another technique called Partial Transmit Sequences (PTS) was proposed in [11].…”

“…In the past decade, the researchers have proposed a number of PAPR reduction methods of OFDM signals, such as the selective mapping (SLM) [13], partial transmit sequence (PTS) [14], tone reservation (TR) scheme [15], active constellation extension (ACE) [16] and so on. Considering that there is a certain similarity between the OFDM technology and FBMC/OQAM technology, it is natural for researchers to study how to use the PAPR reduction methods of OFDM signals to reduce the PAPR of FBMC/OQAM signals.…”
