“…The insular region has been shown to be atrophic in FTD also by other MRI methods (VBM) [73,79,80]. Moreover, the lateral temporal cortices and medial temporal lobes were thinner in FTD patients in this study compared to healthy controls, which is also in line with a few recent FTD-related CTH studies, although in these studies the FTD groups were composed of different types of FTD subjects [22,26,27,81] including a group of four FTD/ALS patients [82], whereas our patients mostly represented bvFTD including two FTD/ALS cases. Further, regarding the FTD types, some studies that only included semantic patients [30] or pathologically confirmed heterogeneous FTD cases [28] showed the most prominent findings in the left temporal lobe, including the entrorhinal cortex, hippocampus, parahippocampus, amygdala, and medial inferior temporal gyrus.…”
