Abstract: the present paper is concerned with the investigation of the phenomenon of long-term bone remodelling on cementless hip replacements. changes in bone density in the periprosthetic region around the stem, measured by dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), were used as a measure of the osseous adaptation reaction. A postoperative follow-up of the use of four different types of prostheses of varying design after on average 13.3 (11.4-14.5) years. Specifically, the prostheses assessed in this study were the CLS/Spotorno… Show more

“…Among those with SIF and THA, the proportions of patients with ipsilateral, contralateral, and bilateral SIFs in relation to a unilateral THA were determined. In a previous study, we noticed that many patients with SIF had undergone THA, and we suspected a causal relationship 16 .…”

“…Four different types of hip implants including the CLS Spotorno (Ti-6Al-4V stem), Vision 2000 (Co-Cr-Mo Stem), Alpha-Fit (Ti-6Al-4V stem), and mayo (Ti-6Al-4V stem) were the subject of a bone remodeling follow-up study that was conducted by Steffen Brodt et al [ 120 ]. The recent research shows that the Vision 2000 had the greatest influence on the stress shielding because of the use of a stiffer Co-Cr-Mo material, which led to the greatest drop in the bone density values [ 120 ].…”

Five different hip implant types—the CLS Spotorno (Ti-6Al-4V stem), the AML (Co-Cr-Mo Stem), the Corail (Ti-6Al-4V stem), the Taperloc (Ti-6Al-4V stem), and the classic version (Ti-6Al-4V)—were used in a follow-up study on bone remodeling by Charles Rivière et al [ 121 ].…”

“…The dimensions of the stem should be revised carefully according to the net replacement stiffness (23,24). Nevertheless, a longer stem could allow for earlier rehabilitation, but in the long term, it could lead to more devastating events.…”
