“…In most cases, the lesion target is the putamen, globus pallidus, or thalamus and most studies report some improvement in motor function following lesions at any of these sites [Broggi et al, 1983;Ohye et al, 1983;Siegfried and Verdie, 1977;Speelman and van, 1989;Trejos and Araya, 1990]. Lesions of dentate nucleus have also been performed in cases of ataxic cerebral palsy, again with some apparent reduction in adverse symptomatology.…”

“…Although the complication rates are reported in the scientific liter ature as being very low [9,12,14], it is well known that longer convales cent periods and vegetative disturbances can result from any small en croachment into the ventricular system. Using the CT stereotactic technique, ventriculography and pneumencephalography are no longer necessary.…”

“…There we found different target points according to different authors: VL-Virn [11], zona incerta [8], pulvinar [1,5], dentate nucleus and pulvinar [1,4], and dentate nucleus [1,6,20,21], In our series, based on the long experience of stereo tactic treatment of various kinds of tremor, selective Vim thalamotomy was done for the tremor-athetotic type cerebral palsy and VL-Vim thala motomy for the dystonia-tremor type. It was shown that the operation resulted in satisfactory improvement of motor performances after relief of tremor.…”
