Long-range Coulomb interaction in nodal-ring semimetals

Abstract: Recently there have been several proposals of materials predicted to be nodal ring semi-metals, where zero energy excitations are characterized by a nodal ring in the momentum space. This class of materials falls between the Dirac-like semi-metals and the more conventional Fermi-surface systems. As a step towards understanding this unconventional system, we explore the effects of the long-range Coulomb interaction. Due to the vanishing density of states at the Fermi level, Coulomb interaction is only partially… Show more

“…There have been several predictions of novel phenomena in Nodal line/ ring systems. In nodal ring systems, long-range coulomb interactions are expected due to a vanishing density of states at the E F and partially screened Coulomb interaction [59]. In addition, the appearance of zero modes due to non-dispersive Landau levels is predicted to exist inside the nodal ring [60].…”

“…RG method has recently been applied to study the influence of Coulomb interaction in several semimetals which are distinguished mainly by the fermion dispersions [34,35,[48][49][50][51]. In a 3D anisotropic Weyl semimetal where the spectrum displays quadratic dependence on momentum in one direction but linear dependence on other components of momenta, Yang et al supposed a shell of (bΛ, Λ) for the integration over the quadratic component of momenta [48].…”

“…It is interesting to notice that recent ARPES experiments have discovered NFL behavior in a 3D quadratic semimetal material Pr 2 Ir 2 O 7 [64]. Moreover, in a 3D anisotropic Weyl semimetal [48] and a 3D nodal-line semimetal [51], the FL description is robust because the Coulomb interaction is irrelevant.…”

“…1(a), shift toward a weaker strength of interactions (such as U and V ) in particular when the dielectric constant ( 0 ) is small. But, a complete analysis on the interplay of a proposed non-Fermi liquid [6] and BSPs in the presence of both long-and short-range components Coulomb interactions demands a separate investigation [42].…”
