“…and children (Vandvik et al 1978) with mumps meningitis. Reduced serum/ CSF ratios of mumps antibody titers, consistent with an intrathecal mumps antibody production, were demonstrated in several patients in these as well as in a third study (Morishima et al 1980).…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…The previous studies demonstrated that CD8+cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) play an important role in CSF of mumps meningitis. [ 12 20 ] Taking these reports into consideration, a higher level of IFN-γ in this study may indicate that IFN-γ is mainly produced by CD8+CTL in serum of mumps infection. On the other hand, levels of IL-2, a Th1 cytokine, elevated.…”

“…Th1 cells promote cell-mediated immune response and produce gamma IFN-γ, IL-2, and tumor necrosis factor-β, whereas Th2 cells promote humoral immunity and produce IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-13. [ 19 20 ] T-cells that produce cytokine pattern distinct from the well-defined Th-1/Th-2 sets have been described as Th-0 and Th-17, etc. [ 19 21 ]…”

“…In addition, previous studies demonstrated that CD8þ T cells play an important role in the CSF-mediated response to mumps meningitis. 19,20 Taking these reports into consideration, the role of monocytes/macrophages in BM is more important compared with that in viral meningitis, and T cells in the CSF of viral meningitis patients are activated more markedly than those of BM patients.…”
