Spatial distribution of exporters only recently has attracted the attention of researchers, while the location of economic activity as such has been subject of profound analysis for a long time. Regions have become more open and thus vulnerable to external shocks. Nevertheless, the increase in the number of exporters in the population of firms is one of the top priorities of regions' economic policy agenda, as it improves competitiveness and overall productivity. Literature overview shows an important gap, which is insufficient consideration of the role of ownership, as regards the determinants of the spatial distribution of exporters. The study identifies the differences between the determinants of spatial location of foreign-owned exporters (FOEs) and domestic-owned exporters (DOEs), in particular the role of metropolis, the proximity to infrastructure and the consequences of historical factors and thus the path dependency. The FOEs and DOEs differ in their location preferences. In particular, our results indicate that FOEs pay more attention to proximity to infrastructure and are more susceptible to the presence of agglomeration externalities in the vicinity of metropolitan areas. In addition, historical factors affect the spatial distribution of exporters, especially if the interaction of path dependency and infrastructure endowment is introduced.

In a recent study, Nazarczuk and Krajewska (2017) showed the importance of geographical factors and structural characteristics in attracting FDI in Polish districts in the period 2011-2015. Using negative binomial regression models, the authors showed that FDI was mostly located in Polish districts near large urban centers with high economic and social development reflected in the quality of human resources, access on labor market and infrastructure.…”

Considering the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in the sustainable development of a country, the main aim of this paper is to identify some macroeconomic factors that positively or negatively influence FDI in Visegrad group countries after the European Union (EU) enlargement in 2004. We employed two types of approaches in our analysis: i) time series and ii) panel data approach. According to the generalized ridge regressions estimated in Bayesian framework, the perceived corruption was a factor that influenced FDI in all the countries. In Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia corruption came through as a serious obstacle for FDIs since 2005, but this was not the case for Hungary. Even if Hungary is perceived as a country with high influence, foreign investors seem no to care about this fact and are more interested in the quality of human resources and the possibility to increase exports. Our panel approach based on a panel ARDL model identified a significant relationship between FDI, corruption index and labour force with advanced education however this causality was only detected in the long run. According to the Granger causality in panel, the attraction of FDI inflows succeeded in generating changes in total tax rate, but the issues related to corruption were not reduced at an acceptable level for foreign investors in Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

The objective of the research is to study the link between drivers of the shadow economy and the demand level on the investment market. Research Design & Methods: Based on the Shapiro-Wilk test, the normality of capital investment distribution and the shadow economy level of the European Union countries and Ukraine are evaluated. Spearman and Shapiro-Wilk tests are used to identify the most relevant indicators of impact. Findings: The analysis of the changing dynamics regarding the capital investment volume and the shadow economy level in Ukraine and the EU countries during 2010-2016 shows that there is an inverse link between them-the growth of the shadow economy has a negative impact on the capital investment volume in the country. Implications & Recommendations: This research proves significant influence of the shadow economy on the demand level on the investment market and underlines the necessity to review the current state policy to stimulate the demand on the investment market from the viewpoint of the most relevant shadow drivers. Contribution & Value Added: The scientific contribution of the article is that existing research on the impact of shadow economy on the economic development of countries remains fragmented, as well as studies assessing its effect on a country's investment attractiveness. The constructed econometric model may provide some insight into better understanding of the most influential factors affecting a country's investment attractiveness and the immediate response to it.
